I’ve practiced on and off for over 20 years, initially in my home with dvds, but never realized what I was missing until I joined a local studio. A friend invited me to her yoga studio . . . I joined that day and it changed my life.
That was the true beginning for me.
As a student, I found myself memorizing the sequences and the verbal queues of my favorite teachers. I think that was when I realized my yearning to become a teacher myself, so I set out to complete my 200-hour yoga teacher training. It was intense, rewarding, and I met so many great aspiring yogis!
I currently teach a small private group of friends who don’t necessarily do yoga. They are athletic, but don’t stretch enough and are looking for something to help them as they age. Teaching the importance of moving mindfully on a daily basis can help you expand or retain your range of motion, your strength, and your focus; intellectually and spiritually. Yoga is infinitely more than just physical postures, Bikram, Power Yoga, etc. Yoga is being mindful in all that we do with our physical, mental, and spiritual selves.
Yoga is focusing the activities of the mind.
